After visiting an art museum in Kyoto, it was time for lunch. We looked for a restaurant nearby and first tried an udon place with high Google ratings—but the line was way too long, so we gave up. Right next door was a place called “bistro plus,” which also had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try.

Luckily, this place wasn’t too crowded.
We weren’t quite sure how to order at first, but it turned out they only offer a set lunch course where you choose an appetizer and a main dish—kind of like how lunches are done in Spain.

We wanted to try as many flavors as possible, so my wife and I chose different dishes and shared a bit of each.
Oh, and of course—I had a beer.

The appetizer was homemade ham and chilled corn soup. The soup was served cold and refreshing.

For the main, my wife had pasta with Pacific saury. It looked different from what we expected—the fish, including its innards and flesh, was blended into a thick sauce.

I went for the hamburger steak with green pepper sauce. It wasn’t made from ground meat but hand-chopped beef. Tasty, but the texture was a bit loose. Still, it had a bold and rustic flavor.

The interior design had that refined Kyoto charm.

The end.
