Visited Kaisen Kawabata

Gourmet Guide

I visited Kaisen Kawabata. This place used to be a meat restaurant called RITA.

The interior hasn’t changed since then.

Now, what to eat? The options were a seafood bowl or grilled mackerel set meal, so I went with the grilled mackerel set.

It came with chawanmushi (savory egg custard), miso soup, and simmered eggplant. The mackerel might have been a little overcooked.

My wife and Toru-kun had the seafood bowl.

It was piled high with seafood. I kind of wish I had ordered that instead. But I don’t really need that much, so it would be nice if they offered a smaller portion.

After the meal, I ordered a coffee. The cup was nice—kind of Taisho-romantic style? It was actually pretty tasty.

My wife ordered a drink called “Hebesu.” You can choose hot, cold, or soda. I took a sip—it tasted like lemonade. Apparently, hebesu is a type of citrus fruit.

Apparently, this place doesn’t open at night. I couldn’t help but wonder if they can keep the business going without serving alcohol in the evening. But maybe that’s none of my business… (lol)

The end.
