I went to the Kanazawa Oktoberfest 2024. Getting to Kanazawa is a bit of a hassle—it’s either the bullet train or local trains. Since the Shinkansen is pricey, I chose the local route. I passed through stations I’d never heard of before: Ushinoya, Iburibashi, Komaiko… all while the theme song from “Nomitetsu Main Line: Japan Journey” kept looping in my head.

I knew the Machi Bus could take me to the Oktoberfest venue for just 100 yen, but waiting at the bus stop felt like a waste of time. Like last time, I decided to walk.

Strolling through town was actually fun. I spotted a poster for a Death Note event—thought about checking it out, but it’s happening in October.

Before I knew it, I had arrived.

We secured a table. Following Antonio’s advice, we got the food first, then went for beer. Getting the beer first means it gets warm and loses its foam. A rare moment of foresight from Antonio.

I had my basil sausage and Bayreuther Zwickel beer all set up, but Antonio disappeared for ages after leaving his lobster mussels at the table.

By the time he returned, my beer had already lost its foam. “You drank it already?!” he accused—but I swear I didn’t. And that dumbbell-shaped glass of his looked awfully hard to drink from. Still, cheers—it was delicious!

Even though it was September, the sun was blazing. Stepping into direct sunlight felt like getting scorched.

When I bought a steak, they told me it’d take five minutes. There wasn’t much shade, so I stood sweating. It was a bit tough for the wait, to be honest.

Other beers I tried—though I don’t remember exactly which ones were mine:
Weihenstephan

Barrel-style glass—might’ve been Weltenburger Spezial Fest.

PAULANER

Arcobräu

We ended up reminiscing about Wild Seven. Can you name all the members? Hibari, Hebopi, Charshu… took us a while to remember them all. That manga was also where I first learned about the police rank “Keishisei”—although in real life it turns out it’s the fourth-highest, not third like in the comic.

I took the local train back too. Still sipping some alcohol along the way.

“Wait, we have to transfer in Fukui?!”
The end.
