Day two of our Kyoto adventure kicked off post-checkout with a visit to the Kyoto International Manga Museum. But before diving into a sea of panels and pages, we needed fuel—and what better place than the café right next door?
Enter: Maeda Coffee – Manga Museum Branch.

The interior? A true tribute to manga culture. Walls were literally covered with hand-drawn sketches and signatures from famous manga artists. When I asked if I could snap a few pics, the staff said it was okay—so long as I didn’t post them on social media. Naturally, I respected that… though I later saw plenty of photos floating around on Google reviews. Hmmm.
We shared a single morning set with coffee—minimalist breakfast, maximalist satisfaction. Because nothing says “Kyoto morning” like thick toast, salad, and a pour of dark-roasted serenity.

After breakfast, we stepped into the Manga Museum.
Photos were kind of a gray area, so I only snapped one near the entrance. Better safe than lectured.

The museum itself is housed in what was once an elementary school, giving it a nostalgic, almost sacred atmosphere—where the echoes of childhood and culture blend seamlessly. As for the manga? A jaw-dropping collection, though nothing in particular jumped out and grabbed me.
The merch shop, however? Absolute chaos of joy. Manga-themed everything. I may or may not have left with a tote bag that screams “otaku sophistication.”
And so, we wrap this morning’s page in the Kyoto storybook. More chapters to come.
