We visited a little izakaya called Uohachi.
On the drive there, Rabbit-san said, “According to Tommy-san, this place isn’t that great.” But come on—that’s got to be info from over 20 years ago, right?
The place has a red lantern hanging outside. The sign doesn’t quite say “Uohachi”—it has a font that makes you think more of Pigsy from Journey to the West. I’ve passed by this spot a few times but never gone in.

Inside, it’s a small, cozy place with one four-person counter and a single four-person table. We took our seats at the counter.
Looks like the cheerful proprietress runs the place all by herself.

We started with a draft beer and the standard otoshi (small starter dish): macaroni salad, tomato, fruit, and cucumber topped with fish roe.

Next came the sashimi platter that Tiger-san had ordered ahead—he requested extra shellfish, which was a nice touch.

I went for the grilled hatahata (Japanese sandfish). Delicious.

Rabbit-san ordered simmered beef tendon stew (sujini).

Tiger-san chose the grilled sanma (Pacific saury).

Highball time.

We also got gyoza. Not sure, but this might’ve been Aji’s “M” pick?

Then came the dashimaki tamago (Japanese omelet). A bit on the sweet side—not really my thing.

With a name like Uohachi (“fish eight”), sticking with seafood dishes seems like the way to go here.
Next stop: ramen shop…
